Celebrating its ninth year, this year’s festival will be held Oct. 21-22 in downtown Jacksonville. Estimated attendance is more than 15,000 for the two-day event. Onslow Oktoberfest is an outdoor festival held on the fourth weekend in October. It features two stages of non-stop live entertainment ranging from traditional polka to pop and jazz, bratwurst and beer garden, amusement rides and carnival games, a juried arts and crafts show, and over 150 food and commercial vendors. Booth spaces (10-by-10 feet) start at $90 for non-profits and $120 for commercial vendors. Spaces for food vendors are limited and generally sell out months before the festival. Other major activities are the Oktoberfest Stein & Shine Glow Run on Friday evening and the second Miss Oktoberfest Pageant. Runners, pageant contestants and vendors may register online at www.onwlowoktoberfest.org or submit completed applications with payment to Onslow Oktoberfest, 600 Court Street, Jacksonville, NC 28540. Festival proceeds benefit the Onslow Soup Kitchen and Homeless Shelter. Both programs serve about 2,000 people in need of food assistance and temporary shelter.
